Tucker update - 2 years
It’s been six months since my last update and there have been lots of developments in that time. We have celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and Tucker enjoyed all three. He really liked trick-or-treating, especially once he discovered that all he had to do was knock on doors to get candy. He was anxious to get his goodies and move on to the next house! We spent Thanksgiving with Jason’s family in Pulaski, TN. His Gran-Danny & Nannay, and Aunt Jill & Uncle Craig all have cats that he enjoyed “petting”, although none of the cats seemed too excited about being pawed or groped by a toddler. Jason’s grandmother Gypsy has chickens, which really intimidated him, but they were fun to watch. The weather that weekend was nice enough for him to practice a few of his golf shots with his Dad and Gran-Danny in the back yard.
After Tucker’s Christmas program at school (he scowled and pouted through the whole thing!), we made the trip to see my family in NC. We spent several days there visiting with family and helping my parents pack…which brings me to the next major development. My mom and dad – whom Tucker calls Gam-ma and Dad-Dad – bought a house on Signal Mountain and moved right after the New Year. It has been great having them close by, and Tucker already knows where “Gam-ma’s house” is located.
In the last 6 months, Tucker’s vocabulary has exploded. He knows TONS of words and can even speak in sentences. He talks mostly about trucks, cars and trains (he calls VW Beetles “race cars”); or about animals like puppy dogs, kitty cats, or squirrels (which he calls “rats” because Jason refers to them as tree rats. When he sees one in the yard, he will say “Get out, rat!”). Our conversations on the way home from school in the afternoons are interesting, as he will talk a lot about the other kids and his teachers. One day, he kept talking about “trendy” and I could not figure out what he meant – until I learned that there is a cute little girl at his school named Trinity. Trinity’s mom told me that she talks about Tucker too, and so it seems they have a mutual admiration for each other! Hehe…
Another development on the horizon is a potential move for us. Jason and I are planning to put our house on the market later this spring and try to find something with a better back yard – one that is more suitable for a little boy that loves to be outside. Right now, our back yard has a concrete retaining wall, which I can just imagine him falling off or sailing over it on a skateboard in the near future! So…we have been busy trying to get the house ready to show. I had my spring break during March, and I had planned to get lots of things done during the day while Tucker was at school – however, he had other plans for me! He sprained his foot on the playground on the second day of break, and so I had to keep him at home with me. We had x-rays done and nothing was broken, however, he could not walk and refused to put any weight on it for about 6 days. I started to get desperate for ways to keep him entertained since his ability to play by himself was very limited. We spent one afternoon at the zoo, and watched A LOT of Elmo. At my most desperate point, I was dancing for him and singing a song from an Elmo video, when he looked at me and deadpanned, “Hush, Mommy.” Ouch!! He’s worse than Simon Cowell. J He went back to school the next day, even though he was crawling around, trying to catch up to the other kids. He is walking now, but it took about 2 weeks for him to really recover. Our house is not on the market just yet because we still have some work to do.
We have his 2 year checkup later this week, but at a recent doc appointment for pink eye, we found out he weighs 27 lbs. He’s still a little short for his age (he gets that from both of his parents. I was hoping he would get my Dad’s height, but we’ll see). We had a birthday party for him this past Saturday with some friends and grandparents. When I told him that everyone was coming over for a party, he looked excited and asked, “Cupcakes?”. Apparently, he associates parties with sweet snacks. (And, for the record, we did have cupcakes.)
I have attached some pictures from his 2 year/Easter photos. Can you tell he wasn’t thrilled to be sitting next to a live bunny rabbit?! We also have lots more pictures posted at http://thelunas.shutterfly.com, including pictures from his birthday party. The password is baseball. We post pictures here regularly, so bookmark it and check it out, if you like.
We hope things are going well for all of you. Send us updates and pictures when you can!
Love,
Deanna
