Tucker update - 18 months

It’s hard to believe Tucker is already 18 months old.  In the last 3 months, he has become quite a little parrot - listening even when we think he isn’t (yikes!) and talking tons.

Here are some of his favorite words:

chuck - truck, any vehicle is a “chuck”.  Whenever we are driving on the interstate, he sits in the back yelling “chuck! chuck!” everytime a car/truck passes by.

mine - I guess he learned this one at daycare.  Ugh.

ice - ice cream.  Sometimes after dinner, I will put one scoop of ice cream in a coffee mug and he will “help” me eat it.  Last Sunday morning when I made some cofffee for Dad, I took a mug out of the cabinet, and Tucker said “ice”, as if we were about to have ice cream.  He will also run up to the fridge, point to the door, and ask for “ice”.

mm-ow - his word for cat (meow).  There’s a Frontline commercial with 2 dogs playing tug-of-war and a cat is watching, looking back and forth like a tennis match.  When it comes on TV, Tucker will say “puppy! puppy! puppy! mm-ow!”  We’ve tried to get it on video tape, but he never performs on cue.

Mel-mo - Elmo.  He also knows Big Bird.

shide - out side.  He wants to play outside, regardless of the weather.  He will walk up to the door, reach for the doorknob and say “shide”.

peez - please.  He only says this when I prompt him, but we are working on manners.

He has also figured out that he gets lots of attention from strangers when he says “hi” or “bye” to them.  When we went out to dinner for Jason’s birthday, I think he spoke to everyone in the restaurant.  Luckily, most people think it’s cute.

Besides talking, he is also testing his independence.  He wants to eat everything we eat, go whereever we go, and do whatever we do (monkey see, monkey do).  We let him attempt as much as is reasonable for a little person his age.  When he get him ready for school in the morning, he likes to walk out to the “chuck” (rather than be carried) and carry his own lunch bag.  Sometimes he will try to strap himself in, although he hasn’t really got that part figured out yet.

His 18-month appointment was Friday.  He weighs 24 lbs, 14 ozs and he is 31 inches tall.  He’s still in the 25th and 10th percentile for weight and height, respectively, and he’s right on track with his developmental milestones.

I have attached a couple of recent photos.

Happy Fall!

Love,

Deanna
