Tucker update - 9 months

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  We certainly did.  We made our first long roadtrip to NC to see my family, and since the drive is about 8 hours, we decided to travel at night so that Tucker could sleep.  We were definitely worn out, but it kept Tucker on a reasonable schedule.  Once we got there, Tucker had so much fun meeting all his aunts, uncles and cousins.  As expected, he got tons of great toys, books, and clothes – and most of all, tons of attention!  Even with all that, he enjoyed playing with the wrapping paper and bows the most!

Since my last update 3 months ago, he’s grown quite a bit and has several new skills.  He’s not exactly crawling yet, but he can scoot and swivel on his tummy.  He’s really anxious to be mobile, so it won’t be long before he’s pulling up on the furniture and taking off.  He loves playing with the TV remote (there must be something hard-wired into boys’ brains about liking the remote control), and he also likes to sit in my lap in front of the computer and bang on the keys (see attached picture).  Pretty soon, he’ll be typing his own emails! Ha!

He’s still babbling a lot too, and some of his babbles are turning into short words.  For example, when he wants to be picked up, he’ll hold his arms up and say, “ma-ma-ma-ma.”  He can also say “da-da,” but I don’t think he knows which one of us is which!

He’s still enjoying almost all food, and we’re expanding his repertoire now that he has 2 teeth.  He still eats several varieties of baby food, but we are moving on to finger foods.  My kitchen floor is now littered with mushy Cheerios! :-)

I took him for his 9 month checkup this week, and he is now 20 lbs and 7 oz and 26.25 inches long.  That puts him in the 50th percentile for weight and the 5th percentile for length (yes, that’s 5th percentile…he’s a short, fat baby…for now!).  His next checkup will be at one year.  It’s so hard for me to believe he is approaching his first birthday!!  Yikes!

Thanks to all of you who sent us Christmas cards with updates and cute photos!  Happy New Year!

Deanna
